about
‘Folk Stories & Fairytales’ is a hazy ensemble of electronic and analog parts, with synths and drum machines crashing lovingly against real drums. An old Rhodes piano loops through a Roland Space Echo, anchoring the track to a lulling, laid back vocal, until a controlled crescendo sends the listener into a beautiful orbit. The track reaches a spine-tingling, fuzzed-up peak as the band are joined by a choir, mellotrons and old analog synths to create a wonderful, menacing cacophony.
lyrics
Dark as the night, brighter than sunrise
Troubled eyes full of mystery and white lies
Tied to the moon and the crashing waves
I'm falling deep into your endless haze
Burst into life from a loving spark
You shoot a sunbeam right through my heart
Try to keep a hold of something that's true
But nothing keeps me from losing you
It takes every effort not to suffocate
In the atmosphere that we create
The air is so heavy I'm so empty I could fly away
Why did nobody ever tell me
Folk stories and fairytales always end that way
